Payroll & Benefits Generalist

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Administration:

Lead bi-weekly multi-state payroll processing for ~ 800 U.S. employees, including unionized sites, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws

Review and approve complex payroll transactions, including retroactive adjustments, off-cycle payments, and employment data changes in HRIS (ADP WFN and SAP)

Administer all payroll tax –related tasks (federal, state, local taxes, and UI tax)

Manage wage garnishments, tax levies, and related deductions.

Completes payroll reporting – e.g. compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability and non-taxable wages, banking audits, etc.

Provide data and participate in internal/external audits – including but not limited to annual financial audits, Worker’s Comp audits, payroll tax audit, etc.

Compile and review payroll data for annual bonus payouts

Support merger and acquisition activities to ensure payroll and benefits programs are integrated seamlessly for new entities

 

Benefits Administration:

Manage and oversee all employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans

Serve as primary contact for employee benefits inquiries and issue resolution

Process benefits changes for life events, new hire, terminations, etc.

Project Manager for Annual Open Enrollment process including plan setup in ADP, vendor coordination and approving benefits changes in ADP

Conducts monthly benefits billing reconciliation and payment processing for self-funded and fully insured plans; resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate records.

Collaborate with vendors on resolving discrepancies/issues, maintaining effective relationship, monitors performance and service agreement

Lead 401k plan administration, including but not limited to making changes to contributions rate, loans payments, funding bi-weekly payroll contributions, reconcile and fund annual profit-sharing contributions

Coordinates annual 401k audits and NDT testing by preparing reports, compiling documentation, and responding to auditors’ and TPA inquires

 

HRIS Management:

Ensure accurate data entry and corrections in various HR systems (ADP, E-time)

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement HR system updates and process improvements related to structural changes

Monitor and resolve system integration issues, including vendor file feeds and carrier connections; escalate critical issues as needed.

Ability to stay highly organized and thrive in a fast-paced environment

Exercises good judgement and decision-making ability

Ability to prioritize and effectively anticipate and respond to issues

Prepare daily, weekly, monthly and annual internal and external reports

Other duties, projects and responsibilities as assigned

Education and Experience

7+ years of ADP payroll processing and benefits administration experience, multi-state and multi-site preferred

CEBS certification a plus

Strong understanding of federal, state and local legislation as it relates to payroll and benefits

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or related field

HR certification (SHRM or HRCI) and Payroll certifications preferred (CPP)

HRIS experience required (ADP Workforce now, SuccessFactors, etc.)

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, oral and written

Expertise with HR software and technology, Microsoft Office, Teams required
