Job Summary:
The Maintenance Manager (MM) reports to the Site Manager and provides support to all departments on site. Oversees and directs the maintenance operations of a chemical manufacturing facility to ensure optimal performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role involves developing preventative maintenance programs, managing a team of skilled technicians, coordinating with engineering and production departments, and maintaining critical plant equipment and infrastructure. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for minimizing downtime, controlling maintenance costs, and ensuring the plant operates within all environmental and safety standards. Strong leadership, technical expertise in chemical processing equipment, and experience with CMMS and reliability-centered maintenance practices are essential for success in this position. The position has five direct reports. |
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance. Design, implement, and continuously refine preventive maintenance programs using data-driven insights and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices. Monitor critical equipment through predictive tools such as vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis to detect and address issues before failure. Ensure maintenance schedules align with production demands while minimizing impact on operations. Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as mean time between failures (MTBF), work order completion rates, and maintenance costs. Prepare budget estimates for planned outages, overhauls, and upgrades. Monitor spending against budgeted amounts and investigate variances. Identify cost-saving opportunities through improved reliability, vendor negotiations, and optimized maintenance strategies. |

Ensure regulatory compliance and safety. Maintain strict adherence to OSHA, EPA, and plant-specific standards, ensuring all maintenance practices meet local, state, and federal regulations. Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions following safety incidents or near-misses and incorporate findings into training programs. Champion plant-wide safety initiatives by conducting toolbox talks, audits, and mentoring technicians on safe work practices. |

Manage and develop maintenance team. Direct daily activities of electricians, mechanics, instrumentation specialists, and planners, ensuring efficient allocation of labor and resources. Facilitate cross-training initiatives to build team versatility and increase response agility during equipment breakdowns. Promote teamwork, accountability, and ownership among team members through goal-setting and hands-on leadership. Conduct structured semi-annual reviews with team members, identifying areas for improvement and creating customized development plans. Recognize high performers and implement improvement plans for underperformers, fostering a high-performance culture. |

Coordinate cross-functional collaboration. Serve as a liaison between maintenance, production, and engineering teams to align on maintenance windows and project timelines. Participate in capital project planning by providing input on equipment selection, design for maintainability, and lifecycle cost analysis. Manage vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or service contracts, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and service quality. |

Possesses in-depth knowledge of chemical process operations, mechanical/electrical systems, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA). Excels in troubleshooting, safety management, budget oversight, and driving continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making. |
Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering. Ten years of progressive maintenance experience in industrial or chemical manufacturing, including 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial role. |
